The new beginning

Final Dissertation completed yesterday, hence got some time for blogging. Hardbound copies to be submitted Monday. The project experience was different in its own way.
Got to know vibrations in little more depth.
(Vibrations ~~~ my one of the favourites.)
Used symbolic MATLAB calculations .
(The Symbolic Math Toolbox combines the symbolic mathematics and variable-precision arithmetic capabilities of the Maple symbolic engine with MATLAB numeric and visualization capabilities. )
Got to know the signal processing fundamentals.
( Sampling, FFT, aliasing, Nyquist frequency etc.)
Learned LaTeX for writing the report.
(especially just within a month utilised the few advanced features like new amsmath package, autonumbering and auto cross referencing. Learned the best way to include the programs in the report using the LaTeX)
Learned and utilised various scripts efficiently for avoiding the monotony and increasing the accuracy.
Scripts of non tchnical relevance are not supposed to be the part of the Disseration.

Matlab server is up + nightouts

Almost after a fortnight, the specific MATLAB server, which I needed, is up. During that time, was working on a low configuration server. Fired the code to let it perform the computations.
Learned necessary amount of LaTeX in last few days. Thanks are due to Dipankar , Satyabrata and of course to the google search. LaTeX in intuitive and simple to understand. Easy to use once you have enough practice over it. As far as report writing (especially equation writing) is concerned, I prefer the LaTeX over MSWord.
MATLAB also provides good interaction with LaTeX, which I needed for my long equations and the .m file code.
I recall the words during our orientation lecture two years before, in Mumbai there are only two seasons, rainy and non-rainy. Rainy season has started in Mumbai. The network will be down during 25th-27th June.
Need for two more nightouts.

Coffee SAC or Coffee shack

Yesterday I was having a discussion with one of my IITian friend. We have Students Activity Center (SAC) in IIT, where students do their extracurricular activities. The friend of mine (not from my dept) used wordings, "As decided at the Coffee SAC,........." in one of the groupmail. When I tried to persuade him that it is Coffee Shack and NOT Coffee SAC, his reply was, "Many foreign universities have such thing ( Coffee SAC)".
Even after a number of attempts to convey him it is not so, he could not agree. It was one of the sorry state of affair and it is such rigid (and wrong) perception holder people (though small in number at present) who tend to give wrong idea about an IIT and IITian in general.
Few lessons learned,
It is, in general, responsibility of an IITian to be what they are and not to show off.
I understood why a compulsory course on Communication Skills HS699 was recently introduced in IIT Bombay.
Dare not to teach English to such persons.

Need for IIT to produce indigenous technology

Arjun Singh stresses need for IIT to produce indigenous technology
.............."The days of 'screwdriver' technology are gone. Industry is now becoming ready to develop their own designs and processes in manufacturing. The IITs must be ready to provide the necessary support," he said.

The IITs have done well in basic research but they haven't done as well in applied research. One of the major reason of this has been the lack of support from industry, Singh said...........

How do people use their web storage space ?

Recently department increased the web storage space to 100 MB.
I found a shortfilm (size=76MB) hosted on the department server.
Is it the efficient use of web storage space ? :) :) :)
If you are lucky enough, you can get hold of it.
The video can be found here .
Anyways nice piece of art to watch.

My profile

Profiles are the description (mostly obscure and exaggerated) of the events in an individual's life during his/her stay in the IIT hostel written by his/her friends. The profiles of passing out batch (from the hostel) are bunched together as a book called as Profile Book . This year the profile book will be attached by the Hostel Magazine.
I was the member of the Editorial committee of the Hostel Magazine (Maiden Hostel Magazine). My few one liners will be printed in magazine. All the readers of the magazine will really enjoy them. One article, on field report of visit to Kapshi Village, written as a collaborative effort of my friends who visited there, may also be published in the Institute's Newsletter "Insight". It was written long back. No time for such things during these summer days.
Aniket Kate, who is looking after the preparation of the Profile Book, told me that he has not yet received my profile. May be because my friends are unable to relate me to any girl or something like that and hence unable to write my (exaggerated) profile. But had my profile (normal profile) reading during the Department Farewell. Hostel valedictory function will be held on May 20th. this will be the third (and final) Valedictory function for us. We already had one from the Departmant and one from the Institute.
Now the only question before me at this moment is about the project.
That is "To be non-linear or to be semi-non linear" This statement relates to my project problem solution method.
PS:- During writing this article, I was thinking with my limited knowledge (though neither too vast nor too little) that Semi non-linear is the term used for the first time by me. But some amount of googling gave me the results containing this term. Since the number of results were only around 100 (hundred) for this term, I can conclude that I am going to do something different and useful. Let the Matlab behave nicely with me. Just kidding :) . The googling results can be found here. I am Happy to find the results. Some of them may be useful for solution method. Who says writing blog is waste of time. Of course reading the blog is never waste of time. It is your personal intellect which finally pays off and nothing else. Do keep reading. Enjoy.

Lab TA work

Preparing a manual which will guide step-by-step about how to conduct the Test on Llyod U.T.M. to any novice entering in the lab with proper safety.
The photo seession for the Pilot run of the test on Llyod Universal Testing Machine was over yesterday.
Today was the final day to get the Photos of Fixtures but in vein, Today there is Bhave's (Lab assistant in Production Lab) daugher's marriage. So could not find anyone responsible person who will open up cupboards to take out the fixtures. Ratnaveer (My friend) was there but said that he don't have the keys for that cupboard. Will be including them afterwards in the manual. No time to wait for anyone.
Just got the Cheque encahsed for an extra amount which I had put into the PAF work.
*Regarding PAF photos which I mentioned earlier to post on the new blog.*
Those pics with me, but are with the watermark on it. Also I will need to edit them and give proper captions and presently I don't want to devote that much time to such things, as completing the final stage project work successfully being the TOP priority.
But I will keep on posting whenever I will get BORED or will be at leisure.
Promises are to be kept.

What should anand write today ?

There was sudden climatic change and degradation of food quality in the mess. Am quite bored with the fact that, on almost every day sombody invites for party or dinner due to different occasion. Guess what will happen ??? Soaring throat and running nose, etc.
Hence no postings for last few days. Seen a number of hits to the blog for last few days. Thanks for visit. Will be posting again along with the variety of stuff . Till then good bye.
PS:- The mess caterer was fined a total amount of Rs. 68,000 /- upto 13th April due to various reasons.
The effect of which can be felt now-a-days i.e. improvement in the food quality. The only privately operated mess of ours rocks in IIT. Enjoy.
